It's the first day of #RPGaDay2024 and this year I’ll be addressing the prompts in these posts which I hope to put out daily. No doubt I'll also put out summaries of my responses in podcast episodes and maybe even take a look at the alternative prompts created by Skala Wyzwania that have been added this year. All prompts can be found at both www.autocratik.com and www.castingshadowsblog.com.
Today's prompt is “First RPG bought this year” and I have several possible answers for this one.
Let's begin with the first physical book I got my hands on: Gavriel Quiroga's Neurocity - Colorblind Edition. A game that describes itself as “tech-noir” and evokes thoughts of the Kafkaesque dystopia depicted in Terry Gilliam’s Brazil from 1985, a real touchstone for me.
However, as I backed this on Kickstarter, was it really the first RPG I bought this year?
That honour would have to go to Colin le Seur’s remastered edition of Dark Souls-inspired Runecairn Wardensaga, a 2-player (solo-friendly) Norse fantasy Into the Odd hack.
